For some Vets, the "perfect job" might be working for a governmental agency. We are familiar with how the VA works and might believe we would "fit" there. The links below are to several government related agencies.
Metro : As a regional government, Metro crosses city limits and county lines to work with communities in creating a vibrant and sustainable region for all. Through shared values of public service, excellence, teamwork, sustainability, innovation and respect, Metro employees serve the region in a variety of roles – from economists to park rangers, cartographers to zookeepers, and recycling specialists to theater ushers.
Metro / Zoo Internships : Most but not all zoo internships are unpaid, and offer real-world work experience and mentoring by professionals.
City of Portland : In support of the City's efforts to be a leader in sustainable practices and to effectively use technology to improve efficiency. Starting January 3, 2012 the City of Portland will only be accepting applications through our Online Application System. BHR continues to work with ADA qualified applicants requesting accommodation.
You can now apply online by clicking on the job title you are interested in and clicking on the "Apply" link! If this is the first time you are applying using our online job application, you will need to create an account and select a Username and Password. After your account has been established, you can build an application by clicking on the "Build Job Application" link. This application can be saved and used to apply for more than one job opening.
State of Oregon : This page covers State jobs, listings from some governmental agencies, and some listings from cities.
League of Oregon Cities : League of Oregon Cities is a conglomerate of information for and about cities. Cities can post job openings for dirt cheap and it fulfills the letter of the law: they posted the job.
Multnomah County : The Multnomah County job application process is Online Only. Paper applications are not accepted. Multnomah County values a diverse work force, built on inclusion, equity and cultural competency. We offer a wide variety of jobs, with competitive salaries, family benefits, reitrement plans and flexible schedules.
Clackamas County : Clackamas County, in north central Oregon, is one of the counties that make up the Portland, Oregon, metropolitan area. It is bounded by Multnomah County to the north, Wasco County to the east, Marion County to the south, and Yamhill and Washington Counties to the west.
Clackamas County city listings : About midway down this page, you will find lisings of Clackamas County cities. The city links will take you to information about those cities and possible employment there.
