Employment Rights for America's Returning Veterans
Here is a link which helps to explain your rights for employment within a Federal agency.
I was interested to see: if you have 30% or more service connection, there is a possibility of you being directly hired rather than the long process.
Good luck!

Portlandia, Season III
The site says:
"Portlandia is the Independent Film Channel’s comedy series that lovingly illustrates the people and values of Portland, Oregon. We’ve got Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein as our leads and we’ve had lots of great guest stars like Kyle MacLachlan, Jeff Goldblum, Jason Sudeikis, Gus Van Sant, and even some musicians."
Extras earn about $70 per day just to be themselves in the right place at the right time. Here is the link if you are interested in applying. If you are a professional actor, the page also has application procedures for you.

Ironically, we were talking about this in our morning group. Here is a link with additional information.
Your stay at the Martha Washington is considered transitional housing and HUD - VASH is considered permanent housing.
I am working on building a solid relationship with the Clackamas County housing teams. I will let you know the process once we have it nailed down.

Umpqua Bank
This week, Umpqua Bank announced they will be making a concerted effort to hire more veterans within their banking system. My friend Michael sent me this information and I want to share it with you.
Calling All Vets
Monday, June 18, 2012
Umpqua Bank is launching a veteran’s hiring program, “Calling All Vets”, and is currently working with several organizations to give more veterans a chance to work for the World’s Greatest Bank.
Why is this program important? According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, more than 2.3 million veterans have served overseas since September 11, 2001 and there are over 700,000 veterans between the ages of 18-24 looking for work. Add that to the remaining 300,000 veterans who are 24 and older and/or served in other conflicts, we are seeing about 1 million veterans currently unemployed.
I went to their career site and found 56 openings in Oregon. You can review those openings here.
Best Wishes!
Cindy B.

Non-Traditional jobs
One of the hints provided to us at the Women Veterans Conference last weekend was provided by the Department of Labor. Manuelita Ybarra was very clear: employers love to see women employed in the trades.
To that end, I have looked up for you the Helmets to Hardhats site for Oregon. Helmets to Hardhats is the quickest way for veterans to transition to a career in the construction industry.
Feel free to explore the site and review the employment opportunities here.

Vet Central / America's Job Exchange
Vet Central is a web site of the Federal Contractor Job Listing (FCJL) that are available online by following the link. These jobs are provided to your center to allow you to provide priority referrals to veterans under the provisions of the Jobs for Veterans Act of 2002 (38 USC 4212(a)).
These are community based jobs, not government related. Apparently, the list updates daily.
America's Job Exchange is a job posting board which I was referred to by DVOP Lee DuPont. You can personalize this one a bit more in that you can post your resume as well as search for positions.
Best Wishes!
Cindy B.

New job contacts
I am using the actual job search logs available to you, to create job listings offered to clients through my network. This past week, I have gathered over 50 leads. Some I have labeled with names of vets I think might be interested in a position. That in NO WAY excludes anyone from requesting contact information.
The Job Search log will be available at my desk and each job club.
Additionally, you can ask for individualized job searches. You identify the company and I will develop a relationship which could facilitate your employment. My request of you would be: research the company. If you do not know how to conduct a company search, let me know and we can work on it together.
I am not a mind reader: ask for your needs.
